About Hammond Vision Center

Hammond Vision Center was founded in 1974 by Dr. Vernon Hammond, a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. In 1952, Dr. Hammond moved to Houston, Texas, where he became the first instructor of optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry.

After two years in academia, Dr. Hammond relocated to the Rio Grande Valley, where he quickly embraced the rich culture and community of South Texas. Over the next four decades, he built a trusted practice grounded in integrity, respect, and long-lasting patient relationships.

In 2002, after 40 years of dedicated service to the community, Dr. Hammond passed the legacy of his practice to Dr. Ana L. Salinas. Soon after, Dr. Claudia Medina joined her in continuing that legacy. Together, they have proudly upheld the same values of integrity, trust, and compassionate care while running and operating the practice for the past 24 years.
